About

My focal point for research interests is centred on Turkish societal developments, Islamist transformation, evolutions in secularism, civilian-military relations, Middle East foreign policy, human rights, democracy theories, civil society in a global context, Europeanisation, European Union (EU) enlargement, and International Relations theories. My research is multidisciplinary in its scope with particular emphasis on international relations theory, globalization theory, cosmopolitan theory, the politics of citizenship in late modern societies, and alternative forms of modernity in non-Western cultures. This involves theoretical work on the concepts such as economic, socio-political and cultural impact of globalization. The interface between globalization and democracy. The patterns and paradoxes of democratization and democratic politics in emerging societies. Islamism and democracy. International context of democratization, human rights issues and the relationship between Europe and its periphery with a specific focus on Turkey- EU relations. The potential and limits of regional power influence in the new world order with special reference to Turkey’s relations with EU, and application of these ideas to understanding contemporary Turkey.
