About
Sarah Fill is a graduate student in the department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway University of London. Her current research examines the grid as an emblem of modernity and a pervasive feature of 1930s English culture. Sarah is studying the grid’s deployment in the art of Paul Nash and the archaeology of Sir Mortimer Wheeler in order to establish a correspondence between the two disciplines. This correspondence then forms the basis of a commentary on the social context in which it is situated, showing how the grid structures aspects of national identity in interwar England.
